Santa Macarena
Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
Leyda, Chile
Where
A single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc from one of the most coastal vineyards in Chile, sited in the Leyda region just south of the port of San Antonio. Only 5 km from the ocean and 55 miles west of central Santiago, morning mists and spring frosts, often associated with the Napa Valley and Bordeaux are brought from the west coast by the Humboldt current.
How
The Sauvignon fruit comes from a young vineyard planted in 2011 and is 100% clonal Sauvignon Blanc of the 242 clone. Being so close to the coast the soil is a mix of seabed with sand and clay. The vines are planted to a density of 2 x 1 and all are hand harvested at night and in the early morning to preserve optimum freshness.
Taste
Great varietal definition and beautiful balance mark this out as benchmark Sauvignon Blanc. The proximity to the see adds an almost savoury, briny note to the crisp, succulent gooseberry fruit character.
